with an open-door policy

To bring great products to market ahead of our competitors, it is important to
tear down the walls between departments and exchange opinions freely. One
Earth Chemical tradition that supports this free-flowing atmosphere is the
open-door policy . For example, in the research department there are no
partitions between the office and corridor, and almost none inside the
laboratory. With free-flowing communication in an open environment like this,
our corporate culture can quickly nurture great ideas.

Comprehensive research facilities to support R&D

Turning ideas into products requires robust research facilities. At Earth
Chemical, we support product development with leading-edge research
facilities, encompassing a breeding room where we perform research on the
biology of over 90 species of pests, experiment rooms designed to duplicate
home environments, and various chemical laboratories. With our research
capabilities backed by these facilities, we can launch over 100 new products a
year.

An organic fusion between customer needs and researcher seeds

The Product Planning Department is one of the departments within Earth
Chemical’s Research & Development Headquarters. This department
organically links the needs of consumers obtained by sales representatives
together with the seeds from the ideas of our researchers and engineers. This
process supports a powerful product-development framework that generates
a steady stream of compelling, original products.

The product-manager system start

In January 2010, Earth Chemical started a product-manager system in which each product category is
overseen by a development officer. The product managers watch market trends closely, maintaining the sales
potential of their product categories. Through the introduction of new products and re-development of
existing ones, product managers initiate market revitalization.

Constant advances in the search for higher quality: “Kobae ga Hoy Hoy”

“Kobae ga Hoy Hoy”, which debuted in 2007, is the successor to
“Haetori Pot”, a fly-catching product launched in 2000. Haetori Pot was
a blockbuster hit from the moment it reached store shelves, yet our
development team was not satisfied with its efficacy. Knowing they could
create an even better product, our developers added a variety of fresh
improvements to create “Kobae ga Hoy Hoy”. The result was a product
so revolutionary it created an entirely new market in fly-catching
products.
